And more draw near on field and hilltop,
And it seems as if each had a place assigned;
So each host is ranged in order and all is quiet
No noise reached us. What is all this?

The reason is that they are much further away than you think.
The kwilight deceives your eyes. Curious image in the air are
told of,and there are evenings where one sees things which are
thousands of miles away. Who knows,but that the whole army,which
Bennazzo thinks he saw, is not resting in the fields which are
nearer to Rome than to Bologna.

What do you mean by that? Images in the air? That would indeed
be wonderful!

Why think of miracle, when the thing can be explained in the
simplest way?
