insugarated the second season of the little Theater with
The Affairs of Anatol. In Munsey wagasine there is a picture (E)
of Gail Kane who was Bianca in the second episode, and an ac¬
count of the performance by M. White Jr. in which he says he
lized it and everybody like it, and that "the sequence of five
episodes was set forth in delightful fashion" with John Barry-
more as Anatol and Gewald Yorke as Max. only five of the original
seven soones were performed:
Seene 1. "Ask no questions"-Marguerite Clark very dainty as
Hilds
"Soene 2. "An Episode"-Gail Kane as Bianca
Scene 3. "The Supper Party"-Doris Keane as Mimi
Seene 4. "4 Christmas Present"-Katherine Emmett- This is the
most serious of the five episodes and the most
unique in setting.
Seene 5. "The Wedding Day"-Isabel Lee as Lona.

On December 17, 1912 Chicago had two different performances of
The Affaire of Anatol, one at the Five Arts Theater by a New York
Company and one by the Chicago little Theater Company. This play
was not only given on the New York and Chicago stages but it was
also filmed in 1921 by Jeanne Macpherson. I believe this is the
only Schnitzler play which has been filmed in the United States.
The óhotoplay was very popular but since it was only adopted from
the play by Schnitzler it was completely changed. Another dis-
tination which only this play enjoye is the fact that in 1907 one
of its seenes, "The Farewell Supper", was played in French by
Charlotte Wiche in New York City. Still another point of import-
