MARGARET: I was at out with my family ; in fact, no one
understood me. Well, those people... Can you believe that
not one of my family realized that one wants something else
of life besides a husband and pretty clothes and a social
position. Ah, if I had had a child, perhaps everything
would have turned outisserently. It is possible,but-
perhaps not. I am very complex - but can you complain?
In the end was'nt it the best thing I could have done -
to go to Munich? Otherwise, would I have made you acquaintance
CLEMENS: Yes, but you did'nt go there with that intention.
MARGARET: I wanted to be free & spiritually free
I wanted to see if I could make any headway by my own ef-
forts; and you will admit that it appeared as if I had suc-
ceeded. I was on the road to become favour.
CLEMENTS:?
MARGARET: But you were dearer to me than fame.
CLEMENS: (Good naturedly) And surer.
MARGARET: I never thought about that. I loved you from
the first moment on; that was it. I have always dreamed
of someone like you; I have always known that only one
like you could make me happy. niace; that's no delusion.
What is anything else compared to it? Do you see? That is
why I always believe...
